What I’m Obsessed With This Week…..Family!

Happy HolidaysI am a self proclaimed workaholic!  I can’t help it, I LOVE what I do.  There are only two times a year when I really unplug and try not to think about work.  One is in the summer when we take our family vacation and when the kids are out for Christmas break!  We don’t have a lot of extended family close by so it will be a low key Christmas, but I actually like it that way!  I am sure we will visit Disneyland and of course we will take my little one, Trevor who is seven to go see Santa.  As for my older son, it’s a big year for him, he is getting……..A CAR!  I can’t believe how fast time goes by and that he is already 16 and driving!  I started Hair Comes the Bride shortly after he was born!  As corny as it sounds it really does make me realize that this time with my kiddos is short and I need to stop and enjoy them while they are still with me!  Wherever you are at in your life, I hope you will stop to smell the roses (or Christmas Trees) and take the time to appreciate the joy that you have in your life.  I am going to take a little break from blogging until after the first of the year so enjoy this time with your family and I will see you next year!

What I’m Obsessed with This Week ~ Kelly Osbourne

I love Kelly Osbourne!  I was doing research for some blog posts recently and Kelly seemed to pop up everywhere.  I think she is bold and confident and she is definetly a bad ass when it comes to fashion.  She is funky yet always tries to add a little sophistication to her looks.  There are not many people who can pull off the looks that she does but I think she is an inspiration just for the fact that she follows her heart and doesn’t seem to give a crap what anyone thinks!  Here are some of my favorite looks….you go Kelly!

What I’m Obsessed With This Week….Gratitude!

I am so incredibly blessed at the life I live!  I have an amazing family including a loving husband and two amazing boys!  I get to do what I love and work with amazing people!  And, I think I am even more grateful because I didn’t always have the easiest life.  My childhood was filled with tragedy and hardship and while it has left me with issues I am still dealing with and probably will my whole life (like many people do), it has also made me realize that it truly does not matter what happens to you, it is what you do (and feel) about it.  I want to wish all of you a truly wonderful Thanksgiving!  Here are some gratitude quotes that I love.   ENJOY!

“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.”   Eckhart Tolle

“It doesn’t matter what you did or where you were…it matters where you are and what you’re doing. Get out there! Sing the song in your heart and NEVER let anyone shut you up!!”  Steve Maraboli

“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”   Thornton Wilder

“When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.”  Maya Angelou

“When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears.”  Anthony Robbins

“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”   William Arthur Ward

“Whatever you appreciate and give thanks for will increase in your life.”  Sanaya Roman

“Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.”  W.T. Purkiser

“An attitude of gratitude brings great things.”   Yogi Bhajan

“The only people with whom you should try to get even are those who have helped you.”   John E. Southard

“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.”   William Arthur Ward

“Gratitude is the ability to experience life as a gift. It liberates us from the prison of self-preoccupation.”    John Ortberg

What I’m Obsessed with This Week…..Once Upon a Time

ABC’s Once Upon a Time is mine and my little boy Trevor’s special show!  We can’t wait to watch every Monday (it’s on after his bedtime on Sunday).  As much as I love the story lines about fairytale characters and the battle between good and evil, what I am really obsessed with is their hair and makeup!  Every time I watch, I want to come back to work and try out a new style.  From Red Riding Hood, The Evil Queen, Mulan, Sleeping Beauty to my absolute favorite (and the star of the show) Snow White….here are some looks from the show.    ENJOY!

What I’m Obsessed With This Week…..My Perfect 3 WEEK Manicure!

I am a busy-body…always on the go!  And, until now, I have never been able to sit still long enough to let my nails dry, so, I had to settle for one quick coat of clear polish and out the door….UNTIL…..the invention of the gel nail polish!!!!  I can finally wear fun colors on my nails and if it’s done right, it can last 3 weeks or longer!  If you haven’t tried it yet, do!

Here are a few tips to make sure your manicure stays:

1)  Make sure that your manicurist does not get any of the polish (even a little bit) on your cuticles, otherwise it will create a little ridge of polish when it grows out which looks funky AND is just too tempting to pick out and

2)  Make sure you stay under the lights that dries the polish for a final ten minutes (or longer), anything less and I have found the manicure doesn’t last as long.

3)  Go for the gel polish NOT the gel powder.  I had horrible luck with the powder!

4) When you are ready to remove the polish, make sure that you soak off the polish and DON’T let your manicurist scrape or file your nails down to nothing.

Follow my tips and you can have a fabulous 3 week+ manicure too!!!  Good Luck!

What I’m Obsessed With This Week…..Vintage Lace

Maybe it was Anne Hathaway’s romantic bridal look or this amazing vintage photo I found (love the collar) but I have been obsessed with vintage lace lately!  I’m inspired to create soft, feminine curly hair and pastel makeup.  Hmmmm….I feel a photo shoot coming on!
